“I’m a New Yorker. No, actually I live everywhere.”

Theophilus London is a man who loves to collaborate. Having now worked with David Sitek, Skepta, Kanye West and Mark Ronson, he clearly draws his influences from many different musical spheres. He spoke with Greta Balog (whilst simultaneously doing a sketch for our Brush With Fame) about his recent Splendour in the Grass experience, where he was a vocalist for Mark Ronson and came out with a big ol’ smile on his face.

“My sleeping schedule is so off here. How can you sleep after a high-energy show?”

They talk about his year taking a break from the city lifestyle in the “low-key, very spiritual, magical desert” of Palm Springs, and how it helped to inspire his most recent album Vibes.

“I’m not retro rap, though. I’m like, sexy rap.”

Theophilus has lots more music coming out this year so keep your ears peeled — the punters can expect a new album appropriately titled More Vibes, plus an EP of unreleased and special take tracks.
