Hosting Frequency these past few months, Mantra Collective – consisting of Sydney DJs Antoine Vice, Aboutjack, Space Junk and Whitecat – have been dishing out tunes week in, week out.

When they’re not mixing on FBi 94.5 and FBi Click, they have been busy throwing Sydney’s finest warehouse parties and bringing international talent – including Adam Port and &ME from the famed Keinemusik Record Label which is happening this week at The Imperial Hotel.

To celebrate, Mantra Collective have put together an eclectic mix of tunes that represent their spring selections. Time to warm up…

Antoine Vice:

Esnard Boisdur vs Frankie Francis & Simbad – Soufwans (3AM Mix)

I’ve been getting in touch with my ethnic roots recently and this track has all the right elements to pull at my heartstrings. Esnard Boisdur’s Guadeloupean Creole chant makes me feel so damn homesick. Not to mention the brilliant production on this track, merging hypnotic percussion with Detroit-inspired synths and a rolling bassline.

Pepe Bradock – Path of Most Resistance

There are 3 records by Pepe Bradock that I’ve always wanted to get my hands on: Burning, 4 and Swimsuit Issue 1789. The samples he uses in ‘Path of Most Resistance’ are drenched in a thick layer of nostalgia, and that’s what I love most about this record. It’s precious and unique and it takes me to a warm and fuzzy place.

Aboutjack:

Barac – Marea Neagra

A huge release from Barac on the Metereze label! The 3rd contribution to the label, Variety Of Different Feelings is a 2 x 12-inch LP release. ‘Marea Neagra’ takes over the A side for a full 11 minutes of emotional dance floor heaven, classic Barac percussion and a deep, almost cosmic melody that will change the dynamic of any set. I know this record has been doing the rounds in Sydney recently but it would seem Barac has been sitting on this for a while now, charted since 2012!

Amped – Dans Cu Enoriasii (Original Mix)

I absolutely love this track! A strong release by Amped on Baile Musik with heavy hitting drums, super tight percussive patterns and that rolling sub bass = 1x peak time groover! If Amped isn’t on your radar right now then this track should change that.

Space Junk:

Coober Pedy University Band – Kookaburra

If a song could ever win someone an Australian Of The Year award it would be this one. Masterfully produced by Coober Pedy University Band (a side project of Tornado Wallace and Otologic), this track appropriately named ‘Kookaburra’ is just mind blowing. Everything quintessentially dinky die Aussie is in this including a tasteful didgeridoo melodic hook and kookaburras laughing up a storm in the breakdown. Best played at bush doofs or whilst holding a can of VB mate.

Adam Port – Shifter

Hot off the press, this brand spanking new release on Keinemusik from label boss Adam Port is just perfect. This track features a heavy kick and groovy yet distorted bassline that builds and builds in intensity as the track goes on. This is an absolute weapon for those late late night sets. Hands down one of my favourite producers. Looking forward to catching him in Sydney soon.

Whitecat:

Moratu – Fruntaelta

Moratu’s first EP on Nil US is as good as they come. A bit of a new kid on the block, signed to Romanian label Soulsity, this track is LUSH, a fantastic emotive opener or dreamy kick-on affair.

Donato Dozzy – Gol

An oldish track (circa ’07) from Dozzy, but phaw, what a stomper. Acid progressive vibes in this one, a massive peak-time warehouse steamer, constantly building. A track that can take a party to another level if played at the correct time…
