Two years since the release of his hypnotic glitch-pop EP Dreams, Oliver Tank has released the first single ‘Different Speed’ (Featuring Ta-ku) from his forthcoming sophomore EP – and boy, is it worth the wait.

What began as a collaboration request via Twitter has seen the pair produce an emotionally engaging electronica gem. Tank’s euphoric vocals and intricate harmonies meet the delicate layering and down-tempo beats of Perth producer Ta-ku.

After a recent support slot for James Blake at the Sydney Opera House and a glowing performance at FBi Turns 10, we’re not even going to try how excited we are about seeing some new Oliver Tank tunes on the live stage. And there’s no shortage of opportunities: with a slew of sold-out shows supporting the lovely Lorde this October, then dates with Active Child and Meredith Music Festival before spending New Years at Fall Festival.

The kid’s come a long way since he and Rainbow Chan won the first FBi Northern Lights Competition in 2011, heading on a musical dream trip to Reykjavik, Iceland with FBi’s music director. (Grab the gorgeous EP they made together with Icelandic artists Just Another Snake Cult and Pétur Ben here!)

‘Different Speed’ is just a taste of what’s to come from Oliver Tank’s next release… and it’s a delicious one.
