“I think the only reason anything sounds DIY from us is because we barely know what we’re doing.”

FBi was lucky enough to wrangle an interview with the Best Coast, another band coming hot off the back of a big, loud, muddy Splendour in the Grass experience. Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno chat with Greta Balog about being dubbed a pioneering influence of the ‘Californian Beach Rock’ revival scene and working with Drew Barrymore on one of their video clips.

“I feel like every interview we do everyone is like: ‘Oh, this record’s so different…’ And I’m like: ‘Is it?’ “

Even though their sound has morphed from that familiar scuzz to some new variations on their latest album ‘California Nights’, they say they haven’t changed any more in the five years since their debut ‘Crazy for You’ than anyone else would, whether they’re a cook or a musician.

And what of their sweet Splendour experience?

“We like, ate and then went and played and then left.”
