Sydney darlings The Preatures have been building quite the name for themselves over the past twelve months – particularly since the release of the critically acclaimed single, ‘Is This How You Feel?’

Since winning the 2014 FBi SMAC Award for Best Song with the aforementioned single, the outfit headed overseas for a European and American tour, as well as made their debut appearance at Texan showcase SXSW in which they premiered their song ‘Ordinary’ for Jimmy Kimmel’s Live Show.

Having also ticked Coachella off the list, The Preatures recently returned home for a quick breather before flying back over to the States. Moments before dropping details of their forthcoming national tour to cushion their Splendour In The Grass festival slot, lead guitarist Jack Moffitt kindly leant us some of his time for a quick chat.

The success of the band has happened all very quickly, which has meant that each member of The Preatures have found themselves evolving as committed artists. Jack reflects on his personal growth:

“You know when you go through that progression of like surreal experience of all those things that you never thought that you’d do and now you’re sort of doing them? It just feels really exciting and new. Every band when they start out like that – that’s the best time to be in a band. From the ground up, when you start to learn about who you are.”

The Preatures have just dropped their single ‘Two Tone Melody’ that is said to feature on their forthcoming debut LP, due for release later 2014. Vocalist Isabella Manfredi wrote part of that song at the home of Ratcat’s Simon Day, though it paves depth and substance to fellow members of the group:

“I think there are parts of it that are about me and parts of it that are about her [Manfredi] feeling what it’s like to be I guess, yearning for something, or lonely or looking for something new; you know, wanting to share an experience with somebody. Maybe not really understanding what those feelings are about, but also knowing what you want in your life or what you want from somebody or what you want from a situation.”

Alongside the release of the new track, The Preatures have also announced four Australian dates with supports by Bad//Dreems and Gunns; in addition to their Splendour In The Grass appearance. Considering they’ve been and continue to tour all over the world, Jack explained his appreciation for performing in his hometown:

“It’s always a riot when you get to play here because it just feels so large… Touring Australia is just the business, it’s so good.”
