Independent Artist Of The Week: Imperial Broads

November 7th 2016

Imperial Broads started off as a guitar-wielding all gal trio inside a garage in Marrickville. The trio eventually expanded to include honorary broad Nick Kennedy (aka Knievel) on drums. This garage/punk/pop gang released their thrashing, dynamic first track ‘You’re Scared’ in August, and swiftly followed it up with their debut album Who Are We Turning Into, released last Friday.

The nine-track LP splits into three gems a piece for the songwriters and vocalists, Lauren, Eve and Pip. Honing their own style of “sugar-rush rock and throwback garage-thrash”, their music is inspired by lifetimes of listening to Rowland S Howard, The B-52’s, Fugazi and Elastica. The power quartet have already played alongside Rainbow Chan and Melodie Nelson – catch them on their album tour across the east coast and Adelaide over the next few weeks.
