Waking up to Sydney four-piece Straight Arrows’ new single ‘Make Up Your Mind’ got me out of bed quicker than the promise of coffee ever has.

High energy, high tempo and charged the wicked grungy feel of proper garage rock, it’s not what you want to hear if you’re trying to take it easy. The band have been shredding the live circuit over the past few years, touring the States and playing with icons like The Black Keys – all the while releasing tunes on CD, tape or whatever was available at the time.

‘Make Up Your Mind’, which you can nab as a free download below, shows off these three years of punk n’ roll. Proper lo-fi, it’s got a positive, chunky feel, made for people to get down to. This isn’t a musician’s beauty pageant; it’s get together, get dirty, play some solid tunes. The track gives off a don’t-give-a-shit vibe, brought home by vocalist Owen with his half-sung, half-shouted do it his own way style. Driving drums, energetic enough to get even the tamest show-goer to their feet, smash through the entire track while the guitars blast out punk-addled riffs and noisy solos.

‘Make Up Your Mind’ was written to get you sweaty no matter what you’re doing.

If you missed Straight Arrows demolishing the stage at FBi Turns 10 last month, here’s your next chance: the four-piece are playing at Oxford Art Factory this Friday with Violent Soho as part of ‘The Hungry Ghost’ tour. Get down early to make sure you catch Straight Arrows strutting their stuff.

‘Make Up Your Mind’ is the first single from the forthcoming Straight Arrows LP, due March 2014 on Rice is Nice.
