Check out these amazing Mr Squiggles inspired by the new Canvas logo

March 15th 2017

Our long-running Sunday morning arts show has a brand new look – and it’s already inspired some squiggly friends!

The new logo for Canvas: Art & Ideas was dreamt up by Irit Pollak, a brilliant local design strategist and podcaster who made the rebrand her last project before she relocated to the UK.

Irit based her design off a parenthesis, a symbol that gestures toward further clarification — digging a little deeper than what is expected. Just like a parenthesis, Canvas Art & Ideas provides a space for further comment from practitioners — a weekly side note on the Sydney arts community.

The Canvas: Art & Ideas parenthesis, however, is a little atypical. Presenter David Capra thinks its curves look a little bacon and eggs, an observation that is very fitting for the show’s Sunday morning slot.

In celebration of the new look, Canvas asked four ingenious Australian artists —Giselle Stanborough, Jason Phu, Matthew Hopkins and Rosie Deacon — what potential images they saw in the new logo (a la Mr Squiggle).

Here’s what they came up with…

Giselle Stanborough

Jason Phu

Matthew Hopkins

Rosie Deacon
