April 14th 2016

Pretty In Pink Annie Potts

Quick! It’s only two days until music nerd Christmas, also known as Record Store Day!

If you haven’t planned out your digging route yet, here are our tips on where to be this Saturday, April 16. This is by no means an exhaustive list of RSD events – be sure to visit your favourite record store to see what they’ve got to offer. Check out the list of special international releases here and get those fingers dusty!

THE RECORD STORE

255b Crown St, Darlinghurst. Open 10am-6pm | More info here

Jossy and Supertrivia will be on the decks from 1pm-3pm, then Vic & James from Plastic World will be curating the afternoon vinyl vibes from 3pm – 5pm. The good folk at The Record Store (hey Kato) have promised to post updated lists of new vinyl as it arrives, and are currently unpacking the goodies live on their facebook page if you feel like a bit of a groove boner.

CAKE WINES CELLAR DOOR

Eveleigh St, Redfern, from 1:30pm | More info here

The new venue from Cake Wines will host a pop-up from OTIS Records (Outer Time Inner Space). These guys have been operating out of a tiny coverted garage in Chippendale, offering an expertly curated selection spanning Detroit techno, soul, rare groove, house and disco. While you’re digging, catch the debut Sydney set from from Melbourne duo Albrecht La’Brooy, plus local favourites Noise In My Head and Ben Fester.

TITLE x GOLDEN AGE CINEMA

Golden Age Cinema & Bar | More info here

See two classic indie record store films – ‘Pretty In Pink’ (6pm) and ‘Empire Records’ (8:30pm) – at Golden Age Cinema & Bar, with TITLE DJs spinning records for free in the bar.

REPRESSED RECORDS x NEWTOWN SOCIAL CLUB

King St, Newtown | More info here

A bit of Newtown mateship never goes astray: spend $50 or more at Repressed this Saturday and you’ll get a free schooner of beer or glass of house wine! Keep an eye on the Repressed Records website for all the good wax they’ll have on offer.

MIDNIGHT OPENING – UTOPIA RECORDS

511 Kent St, Sydney | More info here

The basement store will be its doors at 12:01am so you can be the first to get your hands on some super special RSD releases! Plus if you spend $30 or more, you’re in the draw to win a Golden Pass from Century Venues – giving you free tickets to two shows per week at the Enmore, Metro, Factory & Comedy Store for a whole year. Huge.

RECORD STORE DAY ON THE LEISURE COAST

Music Farmers, 228 Keira St, Wollongong | More info here

Music Farmers will have bands playing in the afternoon from 4pm – 7pm. Catch HY-TEST, Bec Sandridge, Palomino (Richie Lewis from Tumbleweed’s new band), Velvet Elevator, Peter Black Solo and William Crighton. Then if you feel like a kick-on, The Ruminaters are playing at Rad for the RSD after-party!

This sweet new Thirroul venue is celebrating its very first Record Store Day with live music from The Tambourine Girls, Ace Romeo, Alby, Andy Golledge Band and DJs.
