What is FBi?

FBi Radio is an independent youth broadcaster, the organisation behind radio stations FBi 94.5FM and FBi Click. We make radio. Good radio. With Sydney music, arts and culture being our specialty.

FBi 94.5FM has been on air since 2003, delivering the best in new music, arts and culture. We play 50% Australian music, with half of that from Sydney.
FBi Click was established in 2014 to specialise in electronic and dance music. Presented by Sydney’s best crews, FBi Click covers everything from deep house and disco to Afrobeat and electronica.
Where can I hear it?

FBi 94.5 broadcasts on FM radio. You can tune in to 94.5FM right across Greater Sydney, from Katoomba to Gosford to Wollongong.
FBi Click broadcasts on DAB+. Scan for ‘FBi Click’ on your digital radio in Sydney. FBi Click replaces FBi 94.5 on digital radio.
Listen online, on demand and on your mobile via this website!

FBi 94.5FM and FBi Click are both available to stream live, on demand and on mobile via fbiradio.com. Click the play button at the top of the page to launch the live stream, and click FBi 94.5FM or FBi Click to switch between the two stations. Listen back to all our programs via the program guide for FBi 94.5FM or FBi Click. Check out our podcasts.

How long has FBi been around?
FBi [Free Broadcast Inc] was established in 1995 and ran a series of month-long test broadcasts for many years. After a lengthy campaign for a full-time licence, the Australian Broadcasting Authority granted FBi a licence to broadcast across Sydney on 94.5FM. The station launched full time on 29th August 2003.

Most programs update their playlist as the show is going to air or soon afterwards. If it’s not there and the presenter is still on air, you can call the studio on (02) 8332 2999. MUSICIANS / BANDS / PRODUCERS / DJs

How do I submit music to FBi?

When submitting music digitally to FBi Radio, please include the following:

– a short bio and any upcoming gig details

– a link to stream your music (soundcloud, bandcamp e.t.c)

– a link to a high quality download (320kbps mp3 or WAV).
This can be a private link but should be free to download. We will share the link with appropriate presenters only.

Email all this to music@fbiradio.com

Where should I send CDs to?

Our preference is that you submit music digitally but if you are posting CDs, please address to The Music Director, FBi 94.5FM, PO Box 1962, Strawberry Hills, NSW 2012. Include a bio and contact details with each copy, including an email address.

How many copies should I send?

Please send two copies of your CD. We will distribute them to appropriate shows or keep one for the FBi music library.

How will I know if you’ve received my music and if it will be played?

All music sent to the Music Director is listened to within 2-3 weeks. If we like what we hear and add your track to our playlist we will send you an email to let you know. You can search our website to see if you’ve received any spot play from presenters. Due to the number of releases serviced each week we can’t provide individual feedback for all music submitted.

Can I talk to someone about my music or a CD I’ve posted?

FBi invites bands, musicians, labels, promoters and publicists into the offices in Alexandria on the first Monday of every month for the monthly FBi Music Open Day. The Music Open Day is on from 4-6pm and you’re welcome to come in to discuss your latest projects, recordings, releases and gigs. If you’re bringing in CDs, please bring a few copies to distribute to different broadcasters – this gives you a better chance of airplay.

FBi is at 44-54 Botany Road, Redfern – on street level. It’s the same building as Troy Horse studios. Click here for a map.

How do I arrange an interview?

Email music@fbiradio.com with your request. Due to the large number of approaches we receive, please note that we may not be able to respond to every request and are only able to grant requests for acts that have a history of airplay.

Where do I send gig listings?

Email gigs@fbiradio.com and music@fbiradio.com. Info will be distributed to relevant shows for gig plugs and airplay in the lead up to your gig, at the presenter’s discretion.

How do I arrange a giveaway of tickets / CDs?

Due to the overwhelming number of requests we receive, giveaways can only be done in two ways:

(1) off the back of an in-studio interview. You must let your FBi contact know in advance if you are interested in doing a giveaway.

(2) As part of a promotional campaign. Under FBi’s licence, we are restricted to broadcasting five minutes of promotional announcements per hour, and on-air giveaways are counted in that time. To book, contact the Partnerships and Sponsorship team on (02) 8332 2900, or email partnerships@fbiradio.com.

What else can I do to promote my music?

FBi offers bands & artists affordable on-air promotional campaigns. Our standard rates are based on 30-second on-air spots. Contact the Partnerships and Sponsorship team on (02) 8332 2900, or emailpartnerships@fbiradio.com.

You already play my tracks and promote my gigs in listings – why take out a promotional campaign?

FBi is a not-for-profit station and we rely on promoters, venues, labels, bands and artists and brands buying on-air promotional campaigns in order to maintain the ongoing viability of the station, and to ensure that we’re here the next time you’d like us to plug your event. Our campaigns are effective and offer excellent value.

Can I offer a discount to FBi Supporters?

Get some additional promotion for your event by offering a discount for FBi Supporters. We’ll list your dates, times, line-up info and a basic blurb (1-2 sentences) on the Supporter Benefits page. You need to offer a reasonable discount – ideally at least 20% off. Email your info to offers@fbiradio.com.

ARTISTS / ART ORGANISATIONS / CULTURAL EVENTS

How do I arrange an interview / review?

Email our Arts & Culture Executive Producer at culture@fbiradio.com. We will forward your information to relevant broadcasters or content makers but may not be able to respond to every email due to the large number of approaches we receive. We will be in touch if we are able to accommodate your request.

Where do I send event listings?

Email culture@fbiradio.com with the full details, including a press release and a link to further information. This information will be passed on to relevant broadcasters and content makers for coverage on air and online where possible. Due to the large number of approaches we receive, we may not be able to respond to every request.

How do I arrange a giveaway of tickets?

Due to the number of requests we receive, giveaways can only be done in two ways:

(1) attached to an in-studio interview. Let your FBi contact know in advance if you are interested in doing a giveaway.

(2) As part of a promotional campaign. Under FBi’s licence, we are restricted to broadcasting five minutes of promotional announcements per hour and on-air giveaways are counted in that time. FBi offers arts organisations affordable promotional campaigns. To enquire, contact the Sponsorship and Partnerships team on (02) 8332 2900, or email partnerships@fbiradio.com.

FBi SUPPORTERS

What’s an FBi Supporter?

FBi is proudly independent. We’re a not-for-profit music station, made by a team of passionate volunteers. In order to stay on air, we rely on listeners becoming financial Supporters – without you, there would be no FBi. Every dollar of your support keeps FBi on air.

How much does it cost?

You become an FBi Supporter by making an on-going monthly payment (minimum 12 months), or a 12-month upfront payment on your credit card.

  • Monthly ongoing support costs $10 per month, $5 if you’re a concession card holder or if you really love the station you can become a Passionate Supporter for $15 per month.
  • Twelve months upfront costs $120, $60 if you’re a concession card holder or $180 to become a Passionate Supporter.

If passionate doesn’t even begin to describe how you feel about FBi, you can choose the Supporter Plus level and nominate any monthly amount in excess of $15.

Sign up here.

Can I sign up my band?

Yes! Band support is $15 per month, or $180 for 12 months.

What do I get in return?

As an FBi Supporter, you get access to ongoing benefits (to go along with your very own FBi Supporter Card), exclusive entry into our daily on-air prize draws, supporter-only weekly discounts, freebies and special offers, FBi Presents comps and automatic entry into our draws for major Supporter Drive prizes.

How do I sign up?

You can sign up online right now – click here to go to our secure payment gateway.

Alternatively, call us during business hours on (02) 8332 2900 and we can sign you up or renew your support over the phone.

How do I change my contact details/email etc?

Email the information to info@fbiradio.com or give us a buzz during business hours on (02) 8332 2900.

How do I update my credit card details?

You can click here to update your credit card details or give us a buzz during business hours on (02) 8332 2900.

ON-AIR CAMPAIGNS

Can I buy airtime with FBi?

FBi offers bands, artists, businesses and brands an affordable promotional opportunity to reach our listeners, through a wide variety of ways. Our standard rates are based on 30-second on-air spots.

Who do I contact?

Contact partnerships@fbiradio.com or call (02) 8332 2900. The team can discuss your campaign with you and send you our rate card.

Does it mean I’m guaranteed airplay?

Running a promotional campaign with FBi does not influence editorial or airplay – we are proudly independent. To be considered for airplay, see the section for Musicians above.

VOLUNTEER AT FBi

Can I volunteer at FBi?

FBi is a volunteer-based organisation. Most volunteers (including most of the people you hear on air) got their start as a Frontline volunteer. Frontline is what it sounds like: it’s the frontline of the organisation, and our Frontliners are the face of FBi. During your shift you’ll be greeting people, helping them find who and what they’re looking for, performing reception and admin duties and helping out wherever there is a need around the station.

After a while, committed Frontliners will get further opportunities in the music library, in writing, video and content creation, membership, partnerships and promotions, producing and presenting. If you’d like to apply for a volunteer position, click here for more info.

How much time is involved?

We’re looking for volunteers that are able to commit to a regular half day each week for a minimum of 3 months. Ideally we are looking for volunteers who are interested in extending their involvement at the station beyond this.

I’ve got a great idea for a program / I’d love to be a presenter. How do I get on air?

Email caroline@fbiradio.com for more information. If you’re new to radio, you may be asked to apply for one of FBi’s regular training sessions.

WORK EXPERIENCE, WORK PLACEMENT & INTERNSHIPS

Can I do Work Experience at FBi?

Applications are currently open for work experience between January 1st until April 1st 2016. As we have such a large volunteer base already gaining work experience in a variety of roles, we can only accept a few students a year.

If you’re interested in gaining work experience please email workexperience@fbiradio.com and let us know about yourself including what you enjoy about school, hope to achieve when you finish, the dates of your placement and why you would like to do your work experience at FBi. You may also like to include a short reference from a teacher or family member. We will respond to everyone by the end of April.

Please note that work experience is only open to high school students, if you’d like to gain experience at FBi and are not a student you’re welcome to apply as a volunteer.

MAKING A COMPLAINT

How do I make a complaint?

FBi Radio subscribes to the Community Broadcasting Codes of Practice. You can access a copy of the Codes here. Having read this, contact FBi’s Program Director if you wish to make a formal complaint – caroline@fbiradio.com
